Until the world went mad for SUVs and anything that even resembles an SUV, sedans were the go-to vehicle for anyone who didn’t want a pickup truck in North America. The 2022 Cadillac CT4Â isn’t just a great reminder of why sedans were so popular in the past, this sensational car is a seriously impressive alternative to an SUV of similar capability that would probably cost you considerably more right now. Winter driving in Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville and Regina will lead many people to turn to SUVs for all-wheel-drive, but the CT4 has that up its sleeve and plenty more besides.
There are four straightforward trim levels in the 2022 Cadillac CT4 lineup, but some automakers would probably claim there to be eight as all four are available in both standard rear-wheel-drive and available all-wheel-drive versions. And if that’s not enough choice for you, the 2022 model year also introduces a brand new, performance-focused version of the luxury sedan in the form of a new CT4-V Blackwing model.
The regular CT4 lineup starts with the CT4 Luxury, which as its name suggests is nothing like a “base” mode,” and then trim levels go the Premium Luxury, Sport, and finally to the top-of-the-range V-Series. It’s true that the CT4 is the smallest vehicle offered for sale in the current Cadillac range, but the luxury and comfort of this model’s interior is further enhanced by it having a little more interior space than most of the competition.
If we leave the Blackwing to one side for a moment there are two engines available for the CT4 with the standard unit for most versions being a 2.0-liter turbo-four that delivers 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque that gets sent to the rear or all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The alternative is a very impressive 2.7-litre Dual Volute turbo-four that brings 310 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque to the party. This engine is available for the Premium Luxury and standard for the V-Series model, but this unit comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
If you want the most power you can have with a CT4, the new CT4-V Blackwing delivers fabulous power and performance thanks to its sensational 3.6-litre twin-turbo V-6 that puts out a stunning 472 horsepower and 445 lb.-ft. of torque that delivers a 0 to 60 mph performance time of just 3.8 seconds.
Cadillac is a brand where luxury is probably the first attribute you think of when you hear the name and the CT4 exudes luxury with a list of standard features and equipment that impresses at every level. Even the most affordable version of the 2022 CT4 comes with standard heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, LED headlights and taillights, a premium 8-speaker sound system, a dual digital Driver Information Centre display, dual-zone climate control, an HD rear vision camera, leatherette seats, and a cutting-edge infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Cadillac has added even more standard and available active safety features for the 2022 model year, but whichever version of the CT4 you go for, you’re getting an extremely well-equipped car that exudes quality and luxury.
When luxury brands were fighting it out against each other for sedan dominance a few years ago, German automakers were often seen as the benchmark. However, the 2022 Cadillac CT4 is a luxury compact sedan that can more than hold its own in any company and can actually be a relatively affordable gateway model to the esteemed Cadillac brand.
