The 2022 Cadillac CT5 is a midsize luxury sedan for those who enjoy the simple pleasure of driving just as much as well all enjoy getting somewhere in considerable comfort. The CT5 is still a spacious, practical and highly desirable five-seater car that makes a superb daily driver, but it’s far more than just a way of getting around Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville and Regina. Just try not looking back admiringly as you walk away or looking forward to getting behind the wheel again before you go back to it, because this is a car that’s as desirable as it is practical.
Sedans that have an all-wheel-drive option are pretty thin on the ground these days, and ones where AWD is available at all trim levels, are almost unique to Cadillac. There are essentially four trim levels in the 2022 Cadillac CT5 lineup, although, as every one of the four can come in standard rear-drive or available all-wheel-drive form, you could say there are really eight different models to choose from. The 2022 CT5 lineup starts with the appropriately named Luxury trim, and then you have the Premium Luxury, Sport, and finally the range-topping V-Series. Newly introduced for the 2022 model year is the CT5-V Blackwing, which to all intents and purposes is a standalone high-performance variant that’s not really part of the regular CT5 lineup.
The CT5 is available with a choice of engine, or you could stretch that to three if you want to include the Blackwing. The standard unit under the hoods of Luxury, Premium Luxury and Sport versions of the 2022 CT5 is a 2.0-litre turbo-four producing 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, which is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission that all CT5s get, apart from the Blackwing. The other engine in the regular CT5 range is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V-6 which ups the CT5 power ante to 335 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque, and you can upgrade the Premium Luxury to this unit which is also standard with the V-Series.
If something more powerful is on your radar, the 2022 CT5-V Blackwing takes the CT5 to another level entirely with a hand-built, 6.2-litre supercharged V-8 that produces a sensational 668 horsepower and 659 lb.-ft. of torque. This monumental amount of power and torque is sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a standard six-speed manual or available 10-speed automatic transmission to deliver a truly memorable 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds driving experience.
If comfort, luxury and opulence are what you’re looking for you’ve come to the right place because this is a Cadillac, after all. For some people, however, even that’s not enough as technology also plays a massive part in making a luxury car successful these days, but this is another area where the CT5 excels. The CT5 can feature as many as 20 advanced standard and available safety and driver assistance features, but that’s just a small part of the tech this fabulous car has to offer.
State-of-the-art infotainment is a particular strong suit of the CT5 as every model includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and Alexa functionality as part of a fully integrated Cadillac user experience. You can now even have the incredible new Super Cruise feature that allows a level of genuine hands-free driving on more than 320,000 km of divided and compatible highways across North America.
The 2022 Cadillac CT5 is a luxury midsize sedan that will remind you why this used to be the auto industry’s main battleground but it will also make you question why it isn’t anymore.
