Sitting in the middle of Cadillac’s XT range of luxury crossover SUVs, the 2022 Cadillac XT5 is an attractive and highly desirable SUV that offers a spacious and luxurious cabin, powerful performance, lots of the very latest technology, and excellent ride quality. It’s also a model where the entry-level version is much, much more than a low-spec, low-cost version designed to grab your attention with an attractively affordable starting MSRP. The base XT5 is a model you’ll be proud of and be proud to be seen in, anywhere in or around Weyburn.
If you’ve already looked at the XT5’s little brother you’ll already be somewhat familiar with the way the family tree for the XT5 works out. There are three different trim levels available, but only the entry-level XT5 Luxury is a standard front-wheel drive. All-wheel-drive is available for the base model, but if you go for either the Premium Luxury or the Sport model then AWD is part of the standard specification. However, unlike the XT5’s smaller sibling, the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels don’t share equal billing as the XT5 Sport is definitely the top-of-the-range model here.
Luxury and Premium Luxury versions of the 2022 Cadillac XT5 come standard with GM’s excellent 2.0-litre turbo-four engine that develops 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, which then gets sent to the front or all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. If you’d like an even more powerful XT5, however, Cadillac also makes this compact SUV available with a V-6 option.
The unit in question is a 3.6-litre V-6 that puts out 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque which is sent to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. This engine is available as an option for the XT5 Premium Luxury, but it’s also the standard engine under the hood of the range-topping XT5 Sport. A V-6 equipped XT5 has a top speed of 130 mph and gets from 0 to 62mph in 7.5 seconds, and with the available towing package, it can also handle a trailer of up to 3,500 pounds without breaking a sweat.
A lot of potential buyers will be more than satisfied and probably extremely happy with what they get with an entry-level XT5 Luxury. This is a model that should make anyone think twice about buying a range-topping version of a non-luxury rival for what would probably be a very similar price, or perhaps even more in some cases than the Cadillac XT5. Standard equipment includes 18-inch alloys, active aero shutters, automatic on/off and auto high-beam LED headlights, six-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a Bose premium sound system, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, and plenty more.
Infotainment is taken care of by an 8.0-inch touchscreen system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there’s also an impressive list of standard passive and active safety features. These include the likes of Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian braking, an HD Rear Vision Camera, Front and Rear Park Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning. And remember, these are standard features of the entry-level version of the XT5.
The 2022 Cadillac XT5 delivers everything you could want and need from a five-seat luxury compact crossover SUV, but you’ll be amazed at what excellent value for money this outstanding vehicle actually represents.
