The 2022 Cadillac XT6 may not exactly be a leviathan when it comes to three-row luxury SUVs, but as a crossover SUV rather than a truck-based model, it certainly delivers a sensational blend of car-like driving, impressive performance, loads of high-tech features, and no shortage whatsoever of luxury appointments. The standard seven-seat configuration delivers superb capability, but comfort and luxury can be taken to another level inside the XT6 by swapping the second-row bench for a pair of superb Captain’s chairs if you don’t need the full complement of seating capacity.
The trim level lineup for the 2022 Cadillac XT6 couldn’t really be any simpler, and you don’t even have to make a decision about whether to go for all-wheel-drive or not as each of the three XT6 trim levels available here in Canada get AWD as part of the standard specification.
The 2022 lineup starts off with entry-level XT6 Luxury, and the rest of the family consists of the Premium Luxury and the XT6 Sport. Like the smallest model in Cadillac’s XT family of crossover SUVs, Premium Luxury and Sport versions of the XT6 share headline billing as they have identical starting MSRPs. Unlike the smallest XT model, however, not all versions of the XT6 make use of the same powerplant.
There are two engines to choose between with the 2022 XT6, and the first one is a 2.0-litre turbo-four that’s only found under the hood of the entry-level Luxury version of the luxury midsize crossover SUV. This powerplant produces 237 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque which gets sent to all four wheels through a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission.
A majority of buyers will probably look to the Premium Luxury and Sport versions of the XT6, especially if they’re likely to be regularly loading their new vehicle up with a full complement of passengers and cargo. That’s because these two models come standard with a 3.5-litre V-6 engine that puts out 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, which once again goes to all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. And if you’re thinking of towing with your XT6, if this engine is coupled with the available tow package you’ll then be good for towing a trailer of up to 4,000 pounds (1,814kg).
Check out any model in the current Cadillac family and you can’t fail to be impressed with the levels of standard equipment and technology included, and the XT6 is certainly no exception. Even the entry-level Luxury version of the XT6 comes standard with the likes of an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 18-inch alloys, power-adjustable and heated front seats, six USB ports, a sunroof, power liftgate and synthetic leather upholstery. Safety is also well taken care of with standard Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, an HD Rear Vision Camera, LED Daytime Running Lamps and Front and Rear Park Assist.
Premium Luxury and Sport variants start to go above and beyond with the likes of 20-inch alloy wheels, genuine leather upholstery and power-folding third-row seating, and an impressive list of available options make it possible to take your XT6 to incredible levels of comfort, luxury and convenience.
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 takes a lot of what buyers like so much about larger luxury SUVs and then presents it in a modern, stylish and extremely comfortable package built on a unibody crossover platform for a smooth, comfortable and car-like driving experience.
