The XT5 is one step up from the smallest model in the current lineup, but it’s big in every way other than its exterior dimensions. The XT5 is stylish, comfortable, luxurious, and packed with the latest technology, but it also has more interior space than you might expect in a vehicle classified as “compact”.
You certainly don’t have to wade through a bewildering array of modestly varying configurations and specifications to find the 2024 Cadillac XT5 that’s right for you. There are three distinct trim levels: Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport. Unlike the model below it in the Cadillac SUV lineup, the two top trim levels don’t share top billing or a common retail price.
The entry-level 2024 XT5 Luxury is standard front-wheel-drive all-wheel-drive available. The mid-range Premium Luxury and the range-topping Sport are both exclusively all-wheel-drive. The Premium Luxury and Sport models have very similar specifications, but the powertrain and drivetrain are where they primarily differ. The Sport comes standard with the most powerful engine and uprated brakes, suspension, and AWD systems. The Sport also goes with colour-coding exterior styling cues, while the Premium Luxury goes down the chromed route instead. Three appearance packages are introduced for the Sport trim in 2024, which are the Blue Accent, red Accent, and Bronze Accent packages.
The standard engine for the 2024 Cadillac XT5 Luxury and Premium Luxury trim levels is a contemporary 2.0-litre turbo-four developing 235 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, which comes mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission that features in every specification. Although the XT5 Premium Luxury gets the turbo-four as its standard engine, you can upgrade to the more powerful engine option. The optional engine isn’t available for the base model. And if you are considering towing with your compact crossover, the XT5’s maximum towing capacity is a decent 1,588 kg (3,500 pounds).
That alternative engine is a 3.6-litre V-6, providing the compact Caddy with 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s optional for the Premium Luxury trim level, but the range-topping XT5 Sport gets it as part of its standard specification. The Sport trim also features standard Brembo front performance brakes, a heavy-duty cooling system, and performance suspension with real-time damping and on-demand selections for customizing the ride and feel with Tour, AWD, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
The 2024 Cadillac XT5 seats up to five people in some comfort, so don’t be put off by the “compact” classification if you don’t need more than a five-seat capacity. As well as the interior boasting all the comfort and luxury you’d want and expect from a Cadillac, it’s also pretty spacious. There’s plenty of legroom in the front and rear seats, and there’s a decent amount of cargo space behind the rear seats. While the 2024 XT5 Luxury features Cadillac’s Inteluxe synthetic leather upholstery, Premium Luxury and Sport models come with genuine leather upholstery.
All models get standard heated front seats, HD rear vision camera, front and rear parking assist, dual-zone climate control, a dual diagonal colour driver information centre, and Bose sound systems. The entry model has an 8-speaker setup, but above that, you’ll find a Bose Performance Series audio system with an impressive 14 speakers. All three trims also come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity and WiFi hotspot capability.
