If space, comfort, style, technology, luxury, and three rows of seats are characteristics you want in a new SUV for commuting between Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Radville, and Regina, look no further than the 2024 Cadillac XT6. The latest XT6 may personify a simplified approach to Cadillac’s styling philosophy, but it retains the style and imposing presence you’d want and expect from a Caddy. This year sees GM’s excellent Super Cruise system become available in the XT6 for drivers who like the idea of limited hands-free operation on many highways.
The 2024 Cadillac XT6 lineup features three relatively straightforward trim levels, but there are good reasons why most shoppers will probably gravitate to the mid-range and top trims. The XT6 follows the rest of the Cadillac XT offerings by coming in Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport trim levels. Like the smallest crossover in the current Cadillac family, the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels of this three-row luxury crossover SUV share top-of-the-range status, and the same starting price.
All-wheel-drive is standard across the range, but Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels will likely account for most sales. While the XT6 Luxury is stylish and generously equipped, it isn’t a fleet-focused base model by any means. However, the price difference between the XT6 Luxury and the two higher trim levels is relatively small for vehicles at this level. The extra features more than justify the modest uplift in the price from the entry model.
The 2024 Cadillac XT6 Luxury trim level features the same standard powerplant as the smaller models in the XT lineup, and you don’t have the option to upgrade the engine. It’s an excellent powerplant, but the lure of the more potent powerplant will be hard for most shoppers to resist. That more potent engine is a 3.6-litre V-6 that develops 310 horsepower and 271 lb.-ft. of torque, but whichever engine you opt for always comes mated to a standard nine-speed automatic transmission.
Although it shares the same engine as the Premium Luxury, the 2024 XT6 Sport lives up to its name with a performance suspension with Driver Mode Selector, Brembo performance front brakes with red painted front and rear brake calipers, and interior and exterior uniquely designed sport styling cues.
Even though the XT6 is an entirely practical vehicle seating up to seven people, that Cadillac badge means certain high expectations must be met. The front and second-row seats are comfortable and spacious, and the second row can be especially opulent if you can live with a six-seat capacity and replace the bench seat with a pair of luxurious captain’s chairs. And if you assume that the XT6 will follow the herd with third-row seats that are barely big enough for the smallest children, think again. The third-row seats are a decent size, and even adults can be comfortable back there on all but the longest of journeys.
The base model’s specification lives up to the luxury billing with a standard 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, synthetic leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The XT6 Premium Luxury and Sport models upgrade you to genuine leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a power-folding third row, wireless charging, a heated steering wheel, and plenty more. The standard specifications are undeniably impressive, but there’s also an extensive list of available options, such as Super Cruise driver assistance technology and a Surround Vision Recorder.
If you’re in the market for a fabulously practical six- or seven-seat crossover SUV that makes the driver and passengers feel like VIPs on every journey, the 2024 Cadillac XT6 is happy to oblige.
